Mesothelioma | Introduction
One rare form of the disease cancer is mesothelioma. In medical language mesothelioma can be better stated as malignant mesothelioma. Its name is derived from the protective lining which covers many internal organs of the human body. The name of this protective lining is mesothelium, and the name of this disease is derived from the name of this protective lining because this lining develops this cancer, usually due to excessive exposure to asbestos.
The various locations of the human body where this disease can develop are as follows:-
· Pleura.
· Peritoneum.
· Heart.
· Pericardium.
· Tunica Vagnalis.
Although, mesothelioma can develop at a number of locations, but most of the cases of this disease have been observed at the Pleura which forms the inner chest walls and also acts as the outer lining of the chest.
As stated above that this disease is caused due to excessive exposure to the asbestos, therefore, it is usually found in people who have been exposed to asbestos dust and asbestos particles through various means, be it at workplace or somewhere else.
Mesothelioma | Symptoms
Some of the symptoms of this cancer, named mesothelioma, caused by exposure of asbestos, are as follows:-
· Loss of weight.
· Pain on the chestwall.
· Shortness of breath.
Mesothelioma | Diagnosis
It is not very easy to diagnose the presence of this disease i.e. mesothelioma at an early stage, reason being that the symptoms of this disease matches to many other health problems. The diagnosis for mesothelioma in a patient is generally recommended for the patients who have been in exposure to asbestos for quite a long span of time and show the symptoms stated above.
